On web.nuki.io please select short-term rental, then choose Smoobu as your partner and link your lock to the respective apartment.
In the Smoobu messages settings (Settings > Messages > Create) you create a message template for Nuki, that every guest shall receive. In this template use the placeholder [nukiPin] wherever you want the guests door-code to be automatically inserted. For example: "Hi there, your code is [nukiPin]". Depending on how you set the automatism of messages (please check Smoobu Help Desk articles about setting up automated messages ) these will then be sent accordingly before your guests arrival.
Please note: You must have a keypad for the placeholder [nukiPin] to send. No keypad means no use for the placeholder code.
How do I know if I have a keypad? It is shown in the header image above, it is a keypad to punch the code into. Do you have one? Then yes, the [nukiPin] will work. If you don't then please don't use [nukiPin] in your messaging.
In the following we will go into the setting details at Nuki:
For us at Smoobu, it is often not easy to understand which settings you have entered as a host. That is why situational help is very difficult.
In addition, external conditions, such as Nuki updating and therefore change the software cannot always be taken into account. Nuki is constantly developing its products, but Airbnb and other platforms are also changing over time. All are interconnected and small conflicts can sometimes hardly be avoided.
Nuki has a wide range of settings, therefore it can be difficult to find the perfect way, or even to find the best way for you. Neither can we help you to find the optimal path for you.
However, we want to try to show you at least one way that definitely works - at least today (9. Feb. 2021).
Usually we just focus on settings in Smoobu. For the functionality of Nuki, we're taking a short trip to Nuki (web.nuki.io) this time.
Steps to connect:
Step 1. Connect Smoobu with Nuki. In the Smoobu Cockpit click on > Settings> Integrations & Partnerships > Nuki, and connect the Nuki account that you previously created on the web.nuki.io website. If you do not have an account yet, please create one now. Please do not use a mobile device to connect the two platforms. (You may need to refresh the page after linking the accounts).
Step 2. Open NUKI, and you can now see your accommodations that you have listed in Smoobu on web.nuki.io > Short-term rental. There you connect the respective Nuki locks with the corresponding accommodations.
Now, inside the settings for the respective accommodation set the timer for automatically created Nuki messages for guests to 3 days before arrival. These messages will be sent directly from Nuki to your guests.
Solving Airbnb and Booking.com recipient email address issues
There can be some issues with Airbnb and Booking.com, as the encoded guest-emails created by these portals often do not arrive at Nuki.
Solving a Booking.com reservation where the guest doesn't get a door code:
Example case: The Nuki e-mail with the code is usually filtered out of the message feed by booking.com. However, you will still see the message from booking.com as “sent”. This applies to the Pulse app and also to the extranet. So even though you can see the message from Nuki in the feed you cannot truly know which guest gets the code and which guest does not get it.
Solving an Airbnb reservation where the guest doesn't get a door code:
Example case: Airbnb recently stopped sending guest email addresses to Smoobu.
Smoobu sends the booking information to Nuki and the code is generated. This code cannot then be sent directly to the guest by Nuki, as Nuki is missing your guest's email.
So if you are experiencing either of the above cases, we have a fix for you!
Please leave the previous settings exactly as described above.
The [nukiPin] sometimes needs a few hours to be created (a recent update ensures the code creation to be within 5 minutes ideally). In the Nuki settings, we have already set the trigger for the code generation to 3 days before arrival, but as described in the Examples above we cannot know whether that message truly arrives or not.
Ensure you have a mailing template containing our Placeholder
To do this open Smoobu > Settings > Messages
Here you create a template that you can call e.g. "Nuki Door-Code". Now write the text to your guests and insert the placeholder [nukiPin] in the large text field. In the message settings below you select automation for 2 days before arrival.
Now everything works fine! (However, only guaranteed if the Code in Nuki has already been created a day before and 3 days before arrival, as described higher above.)
Guests will now automatically receive the door-code 2 days before arrival via the message template created in Smoobu.
Nevertheless, you might receive an error message from Nuki 3 days before the guest's arrival for Airbnb bookings because they had no guest email and therefore could not send their own message.
Airbnb Bookings workaround to fetch email addresses
Alternatively you may reactivate this option to show these recipient addresses again within the Airbnb settings / Professional hosting tools / Allow me to use an email alias to reach guests
